Transitional Housing Assistance Grants

What is Transitional Housing Assistance?

Transitional housing assistance is assistance is give to families and individuals who are homeless (for whatever reason).  The purpose of transitional housing assistance is to take the family or individual from a homeless status to full self-sufficiency within 3-4 months (usually no longer than six months).  It is usually given to individuals who, for whatever reason, have been displaced from their usual house or home.  This can include families who have experienced home foreclosure, women who have left abusive relationships and vagrants who are looking to change their lifestyle.

While there are no transitional housing assistance grants available for individuals from the Federal or local governments, there are a number of programs in place that channel funds to organizations that set up programs to help individuals make the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.  The following is just one of many programs that are available in states from Florida to Alaska and all points in between.  You may have to do a local search for programs in your immediate area, but most are similar to this one:

Hillcrest Transitional Housing.  Located in the Kansas City Metro area, Hillcrest provides transitional housing assistance; specifically rent and utility-free housing to residents who agree to work full time, obey the program guidelines and attend classes in life skills, budgeting, community living and the like/ Through ties with local community groups Hillcrest can also help with GED classes, work or school uniforms, medical assistance, auto donation and other needed services that will help individuals get back on their feet.   For more information on this specific service provider, see: Hillcrest Transitional Housing

There are, however, thousands like it in every state in the US if you know where to look.  But apart from donations by religious organizations, have you ever wondered where these kinds of organizations get their funding?  Perhaps you are running one such organization and are looking for funds to help keep your program solvent.  If so, you may want to look into applying for funding from the Governments transitional housing assistance grant program.
