Grants for Bills

The idea of being able to get free money to help pay off your bills is one that most anyone would welcome, but is there actually free money to be had?  This is especially true if you are finding yourself in a tight spot with the amount of bills that you have to pay off.  Some families are so badly off that they are looking at foreclosure of their homes.  So, what can be done?

Every time you turn around you see online advertising for ‘free grant money’ and suggestions that you might be eligible for free money from the government.  So where is the money?  Unfortunately the Federal Government is not in the business of giving grants out to individuals.  This does not, however, mean that there is no money to be had to help you with being able to pay your bills.  You may, however, have to reconsider the concept of money and benefits when taking government money into consideration.

There are a good number of Federal assistance programs that enable local and state governments as well as community agencies and nonprofit organizations to give money out to those who can demonstrate true financial need.  From assistance from the Federal Government for mortgage and foreclosure assistance to help in being able to afford medical bills to laws that protects consumers from illegal medical debt collectors to prescription assistance.  The amount of help that the Government pours into assistance programs is considerable.  But it is not just given away indiscriminately.

Most government programs have their own application processes that are required in order for them to consider you as a candidate for assistance in these programs.  If you are looking for government assistance you can find it by supplying your information to: Benefits Gov.

If, however, you are looking for help that does not come with government strings or requirements, you can look to your local utilities for help.  It is true that most local utilities such as power companies, water companies, sewer companies as well as gas and oil companies have programs in place for those who need assistance.  If you are interested in finding out what programs are available from these organizations all you need to do is contact the utility and find out what sorts of programs are available for people with demonstrated financial need.

Keep in mind that there are also local charities that are available and that have programs in place to help those who are having difficulties making all of their payments.  You may have to apply to each individually, and they may not give out large sums of money, but if things are tight any little bit can be a significant help.
