But why would the manufacturers of these devices want to give them away for free?

How to Apply for an AED Grant

Application for an AED Grant is simple.  You simply fill out the application and send it in by fax.  A grant processor contacts those who submit applications and will let the applicants know if they qualify for the grant.

Keep in mind that these grants do not cover the entire cost of an AED machine.  In fact, you never actually receive any money and you don’t receive a free machine.  The grant amount is deducted from the total cost of the AED machine which allows the person ordering the device to get one of these devices at a significantly discounted rate.
